Home hair conditioning treatment

Hi,
I need to condition my hair desperately. Too much summer sun/ no brushing!
I've looked onlien and there are various home treatments, oil, egg, mayonaise of all things. I was just wondering if anyone has tried these and if so which worked. I'll be happy to try any of them.
(Would this be better on the OS board?)

Olive oil - massage your scalp well while putting it on for a treat, and coat lengths thoroughly, then wrap in cling film and leave for a couple of hours.
Though I don't often do it, I use commercial products mostly (Elasticizer being my favourite).0 -
I'd second olive oil, or coconut oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, things like that. Coat your hair, wrap and leave for an hour or two.
One thing I've found that helps is that before I rinse/wash my hair, I massage conditioner all over, leave for at least 5 minutes, then wash and condition as normal. This helps dissolve the oil, and means that you don't get any residue from it when you're washing if that makes sense

another fan of using oils here!
I've used olive oil and coconut oil with good results- do the same as Bratz suggested, I don't need to do this that often anymore, but when I wash my hair, I do wrap it up in a towel for a bit then apply conditioner and put my hair up- I tend to always leave it in for a little while- 15-30mins I also rub a little bit of coconut oil into my hair after washing ( a tiny bit mind!) instead of a serum and this helps with frizz (I've got really curly hair) and keeps it soft and shiny.

Different things work for different hair. Just because one person raves about using XYZ and says it makes their hair shiny / silky / soft, doesn't mean it will work for YOUR hair. The only way to find out is to try.

Thanks for the ideas! I have my hair up now wrapped in a shower cap beacuse it's coverd in olive and coconut oil mix. I will tell you how it goes0

Please do! I bought some coconut oil in Superdrug last weekend. I've tried using it after washing my head, but it definetely does not work for me! It made my hair greasy and horrible!! (I have fine frizzy hair). Next time I want to try before washing.
I've done the olive oil in the past, but haven't noticed any improvement at all...0 -
Ok so I used coconut oil bought in the cooking section in Tesco...
Anyway my hair does definitely feel softer but similar to as if I dumped a ton of conditioner on it. The difference I guess will be long-term. I want to try it agin beacuse I didn't brush my hair before i did it last time and had so many knots that I'm not sure how much 'went in'.
I did all of this and then washed my hair, I left it in for 2 hours.
I have straight hair and tbh it's not much of a bother, dont have to do much but I think conditioning it will definitely help it.0 -
i am another fan of oil. i sometimes use baby oil or olive for my hair. but the difference is that i don't use it to massage my scalp (i have oily hair that i don't want to make it more greasy). i only use it on the tip of my hair. i ever hear that it can also prevent the split of the hair.0

coconut oil or any other oil is brilliant. What i do cos i have fine hair is put the oil in dry hair and leave as long as possible - overnight with an old towel on pillowcase works. To rinse it out i have to use a lot of shampoo on my hair DRY, before adding water put the shampoo in and massage as normal, them rinse the whole mixture out - if i wash as normal i find there is a residue of oil in my hair so putting shampoo in before water works brilliantly.0
