Payday Express

Hi all,

I have a £200 (including interest) payday loan to pay back to Payday Express. I rolled over last month, so they have already made £40 from me, and I now realise that this will continue as I can't afford the £200 in one go - so they will keep on taking the £40 from me each month.

So I e-mailed them to say explain my situation, and offered them a payment plan to pay them the money back over a three month period (£66.67 p/m). I was in a similar situation with OneMonthLoan and CashGenie - they accepted my payment plan offer instantly.

I e-mailed Payday express on the 1st September, and have e-mailed them four times since, with the offer of a payment plan. They have not replied to any of the e-mails - and I have sent them to both their customer service addresses, plus their collections address.

I got an automated e-mail from them again today, staing that I now had to pay back £240, and that i had to contact them urgentyl. I have been trying to contact them for the last week. Is it fair/acceptable that they have completely ignored my e-mails? I feel that someone could have at least taken 30 seconds to write back to me.

    Its not fair no

But its pretty standard practice from seeing other threads.
Whilst most people would tar all payday loan companies with the same brush I would say that from reading the threads on here Payday express are one of the least co-operative when people try to set up repayment plans.

They won't agree to a repayment plan whilst every they can still take money from your current account. If you can empty your current account and open a new bank account elsewhere and they then cannot take the money automatically, at that point you might get them to accept a repayment plan.

I'd have a read of this thread - Dealing with Payday Loan Companies

  • Hi,

I am in a similar situation as you at the moment with Payday Loan companies, one of which being Payday Express. I like you emailed them setting out an offer of repayment to which I received a standard response which I've copied below.

Thank you for your recent email and your request for a repayment plan.
Our accepted criteria for a repayment plan is as follows:
    Severe Disability or illness
    Imprisonment
    Terminal illness or Mental illness
    Deceased
Redundancy or Reduced hours (contractual hours reduced by company)
If your financial circumstances have changed due to one of the above, we would be able to consider a repayment plan.
We will require you to send in bank statements and wage slips covering the last 2 months to show that you are now in receipt of either financial support or a reduced wage. If you are now unemployed we will also need to see proof of unemployment or redundancy. Alternatively if your circumstances have changed due to personal illness we will require evidence in the form of a doctor’s note or hospital letter, as well as the bank statements.
Please be advised that if you do not fit the above criteria or you are unable to provide documentation, a repayment plan cannot be considered.
Should you wish to discuss these options or your account please call our office on 0208 461 6705 and one of our advisers will be able to assist you.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information.
    Many thanks

    Regards,
    Payday Express

They are the most unhelpful people and only want to talk to you on the telephone to bully you into making bigger repayments than you can afford.

I'm no expert by any means as I'm struggling my way through their system but I will continue to email them/write to them repeating my offer. I refuse to show them copies of any bank statements etc. I will keep a copy of each and every letter or email I send to them and am now at the point of hoping that they will pass the debt to a collection agency, maybe then they will start listening and accept the offer I'm making to repay them.

Good luck, I hope you get a response from them soon.

    Hi,

I have an overdue loan with payday express, borrowed £400 and ended up owing £700. I just ignored them for a few months and then called them and offered £100 a month and told them this is all I could afford.

They accepted this straight away and agreed to freeze further interest and I have made the first payment to them.

Call them on 08000126347 rather than e-mail. I always find them very friendly.

    Wow. Feels great :j

I have called them twice, and e-mailed 6 times. Every e-mail so far has been ignored. I have found them to be impossible to deal with, and the thought of having to deal with them makes me so depressed. I called last night, complaining that nobody bothered to reply to my e-mails. Woman on phone said she would e-mail me to confirm what happens next. No e-mail has been received, and it's now past 12pm.

I e-mailed again. Offered plan again.

You know what really angers me - the plan i'm offering means that they get the full loan balance back (£160) plus they make a profit from me of £120. Yet that doesn't seem to be enough for them.

How I regret getting involved with this company. Payday loans, in geenral, are a bad idea. I now know that 100%. But companies like Cash Genie and OneMonthLoan have treated me quite fairly. Yes, the companies are making money off me - but they have also been fair in allowing me a repayment plan and a way out of my troubles.

Payday Express is just a horrible company, from my own personal experience. My advice - STAY AWAY FROM PAYDAY EXPRESS AT ALL COSTS!!

  • I think you should do what Tjrw1985 did. Just ignore them for a few months and then they will accept a payment plan. Have a quick look at your credit report also. These companies are well known for placing defaults on credit files for no apparent reason, QuickQuid are famous for it.

Don't let any PDL company bully you! Push comes to shove, print out all the emails you have sent them and write in a complaint. You can show you've tried to contact them several times.

Best of luck to you :)

The problem with ignoring them is that they add on £40 of interest every month, plus a £40 deferral fee. I have explined to them, in detail, my situation. I simply cannot understand them not even taking 30 seconds to send me an e-amil back. A horrible, horrible company. I'm also kinda beginning to hope that they sell the debt to a debt collection agency for a fraction of the price. At least it won't be PD Express getting the money off me then.

  • Am I the only one who gets a little suspicious when someone signs up, and their only post is along the lines of "Call them on xxx, they're helpful and friendly"?

I mean, I'm sure they're fully aware that it's illegal for a company to falsely represent themselves as customers on forums and the like, so it must be genuine, but it just seems....odd.

Didn't think about it like that timbstoke.

Anyway, needless to say, they haven't replied to my final payment plan offer, aprt from an automated reply the same as Steph.

I had £18 in my current account to live on for the rest of the month, and £15 of it has disappeared today. I believe that Payday Express is the compnay that has taken the money. Horrible, horrible company.

If you have come across this thread via google alike myself when searching for payday express if you are considering taking a loan with them, simply don't at all costs! There are so many instances where people have been ripped off and had massive issues with their customer service alike myself.

Consider other actions like selling something you no longer use etc, you can list items on eBay for as little in 1 day auctions and download the funds from paypal within 24hrs for an additional £5 payment... this has got me out of sticky patches in the past and has proven a far better option than getting into debt.
