Good luck with the wedding. Im not very good at cooking for crowds but a pudding that always goes down well is fresh fruit salad. Hope this helpsx
  • Not sure what type of budget your going for but Iceland and Farmfoods do very cheap and very tastey party foods, all you need to do is chuck them in the oven!

quiches are full proof and my mums staple at all family parties. You can add the odd fancy ingredient to party it right up to something wow as well.

Simple is frozen mini sausages rolls so eazy to cook or lldl do cheese and onion frozen rolls which are a personal favourite nibble.

Saw this earlier amd thought sounded interesting in a spicy way! http://www.marthastewartweddings.com/recipe/spicy-asian-brittle

    Hi

im doing the same for our reception (getting married abroad so we've got a few weeks in between). My mum thinks im crazy for doing it myself but i do enjoy things like that but i am going to take a few short cuts. At my local tasco theres a deli counter that sells lovely quiches by the slice so a couple of weeks before im gonig to order about 4 in all different flavour, they look really home made and taste lovely. The same for samosa's, we get them delivered at work for about 25p each, there huge and freshly made, one of my firends knows the shop owner and she can get them for 19 p each.

I dont mind paying for some things (like quiche and samosas) to keep stress down, but sandwhiches and rolls etc will be done on the day, were having sausage rolls, big bowls of salads, pasta salads, homemade coleslaw, maybe potato salad, chicken (might order thisfrom out local carribean takeaway, depends on cost), fresh crusty bread, all the normal buffet food. Love to do a sweetie table but not made my mind up at the moment. Were having the wedding cake a pudding as i dont want it going to waste.

Supplies- iceland, costco, farmfoods, as well as your supermarkets especially the value brands.

    quieche
    salads
    indian pieces
    chinese pieces
    chicken goujons
    kofte kebabs
    sausage rolls
    chicken kebabs
    cocktail sausages
Cheese, egg, chicken, ham, tuna sandwiches
    Crisps
    Nuts
(forgot the vegis, we had breaded cheeses as well!)

and probably more I cant remember!!!! hehehe, I did all the cooking took me two days solid! But then Im just one person, in a one bed flat! hehehehe

A lot of the time when i have friends round we get the Iceland Party Platters.. they are fab and very cheap! They also do desert platters too! I'd also do quiches, and maybe good old sandwich triangles!

Should be a feast fir for a king!
Now a married lady and loving it! Now..to clear that pesky mortgage!

wow you are brave!! I dont think I could cope with that-when I was going to have my wedding locally I wanted to make my own wedding cupcakes and everyone told me I was mental, but since I am doing it away now, I dont have that option anymore!

I think chicken drumsticks always go down well, cocktail sausages, mini everything lol. Samosas and onion bhajis, chicken goujons, fruit skewers. Hope it works out great for you!

How about a giant cheese board? We're having one and it's a shame that we can't do it ourself (venue doesn't allow it, but we know they will do what we want perfectly).

    We're having:

    Cheeses
    Breads
    Crackers / Busicuits
    Chutneys
    Pickles (onions eggs etc)
    Ham (proper westcountry whole ham)
    Salad
    Salad sauces

We went for this idea after a friend had it at her wedding (they did it themselves) and it was lovely!!!

    Cocktail sasauges,
    Cheese/pineapple on sticks
    Bowls of crisps/nuts
    salad
    pasta salad
    sasauge rolls
Cook your own meat for the sandwiches, like roast some beef and boil some ham, gives it a nice touch and it's relatively easy to do, we did it for our engagement then laid out the bread and meat so people could make their own sandwihces, or have open sarnies as you get more out of the bread.

I used to help with the mayors buffet each year and one of the things they did was to lay lettuce leaves along the edge of the plates the sandwiches were going on, added a bit of colour to it.

John Lewis also sell buffet platters which are reasonably priced, they also sell wedding cake (I only know because I picked up their entertainment and wedding brochure the other day in Waitrose).
