My wife has to reclaim overpaid tax from HMRC as she has worked only 3 months in 2009-1010. After finding out that tax refund companies will charge as much as 18% on total amount , we decided to do it ourselves.
We are sending her P60 , P91 (Employment history) form and covering letter detailing her NI number and work history to HMRC
1> Whats the HMRC Postal address where i should send these forms?
2> How do i make sure HMRC replies or at least acknowledges that they have received these forms as i will be sending her original P60
Thanks for your help in advance.

There should be a number on her P60 called a Employer Reference, Tax Reference, or something like this. It is in the format 123/AB45678.
Enter that number here: http://search3.openobjects.com/kbroker/hmrc/locator/locator.jsp?type=1
Then click Search. It will show the address where the form needs to be sent.
Send it recorded delivery if you want the reassurance that it has arrived.2> How do i make sure HMRC replies or at least acknowledges that they have received these forms as i will be sending her original P600 -

There's no point I sent 2 recorded delivery letters and didn't obtain a signature for both (despite being delivered). I asked why I didn't get a signature, and the woman at the tax office says the postman has too much post to obtain a signature for all parcels. They simply sign for a pile of letters (20/30) and only the one at the top might get a signature. Just keep a copy of everything sent to them, as RD is useless.0 -
You could take the documents to your local HMRC advice office and hand them over personally - they then go in the HMRC internal mail and you save the postage.
The excuse of "lost in the post" cannot then be trotted out.
Alternatively ask your post office for a certificate of posting and chase it up if there is no reply within 3 months.
Keep photocopies of everything.0 -

good morning.
one friend likes to claim the tax back because he left the country in october but he needs the adress. i've tried to contact with HRMC a lot of times but nobody answers the phone, can you confirm if the correct adress it's the adress of cardiff or the adress of liverpool? he was living in bristol.

Try putting: hmrc form going abroad
into google.
The form P85 helpfully says it will be issued to you - but realistically can we expect the paperwork to keep up with the rate of change at HMRC's administration.
[I was sent a similar completely blank form and when I phoned to say the form should have been issued partly completed, I was told to "fill it in and do my best".]0
