Water is one of my biggest issue as I live in Cornwall,
I thank MSE for asking as it non issue in most party's manifestos.
Will admit im horrified at the Lib Dem reply as "social tarrifs" are already in place for those that need extra water for medical reasons or have large families ( 3+ children of school age).
The way things are at the moment to open that up to low income families and everybody that can't be bothered to get a job, will push the price of water up for us that are on a low income but not entitled to most benefits as they own homes or dont have children.
All this subsidised living is unsustainable as it is, to me personally that would be the straw that breaks the camels back

Interesting how most of Cameron's answers focus on what Labour have done wrong, whereas Brown and Clegg's responses are simply forward thinking. Sick to the back teeth of hearing about 'hard working families' and pensioners, like single people and couples are non-existent or inconsequential.

  • My council tax now accounts for 10% of my PRE-TAX income.

If my heating bills were at the same level I'd be regarded as "in fuel poverty".

But, people say, I've got a big house (3 bedroom), time to downsize - yes but we have a granny and a child living with us. "But it's a house in a nice area (Cleggs constituency), move downmarket" - That's my reward for working hard and spending 30 years paying off a mortgage then, thanks.

There is no question that Labour is preparing for a council tax revaluation and I'll be sunk.
  • I forgot to say - a neighbouring house is home to a family of 4, the parents are both doctors so a household income ten times ours. They pay the same council tax as me, but that's just 1% of their income compared to my 10%.

    So is mine.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Sounds like you are advocating the return of the poll tax. To be honest for couples it is much fairer than the current system.

I'm not. There's absolutely no guarantee couples would be better off. Single people probably would though.

I live on a long street of all different houses, dormer bungalows and bungalows and the 3 houses the same as mine are worth thousands less than all the rest but we are banded all the same. I rang the council tax office to say i had checked the price these houses were sold for and worth in 1991, which is thousands less than the others on the street, they said i had to find similar properties that are banded lower than what im on but all the streets round here are the same a mix of high priced bungalows and the odd houses like mine. at the time the houses according to there value in 1991 should of been band C but we've all been banded the same band D. please can anyone help how i can get it reduced. :(
