Westcot Debt Collections

Hello, I need to get some advice. I have a defaulted loan/current account with Lloyds that I have been faithfully paying off at a small but regular rate for over 4 years now. Occasionally BLS Collections would call and ask me if I wanted to settle but I couldn't so they said 'ok, keep making your payments'. No problem says me. Last week I received a serious, 'we will possess your husband and child' type letter saying that they hadn't received payments for my Lloyds debt. I didn't know they had the debt!! I called and the woman I spoke to was polite but unhelpful saying that she didn't know anything about it and that if I'd had a letter then it must be true!! I have always been of the understanding that BLS Collections was part of LLoyds bank Debt recovery and have never had any problems with them at all. I have continued to make my BLS payments. I contacted Lloyds who were unable to help me as the debt is so old and they couldn't find a record of me!! Should i worry or just keep to my original arrangements and ignore these Westcot people?? Thanks for your advice.

  • As far as I recall using two debt collectors at once is outside OFT guidelines. It is also outside the guidelines to transfer the matter to another DCA without informing you. Check the OFT site out for the exact wording.

I would write to Wescot saying you have an arrangement with BLS and that you have not been informed that this has been transfered to another company ( as per OFT) and asking what their interest is in the debt, who they are representing, etc and ask for any relevant paperwork/assignment documents to be sent to you.

I've had this before, ring BLS (0870 1504400) and ask if they've passed the debt on and if they have, who to? If they haven't (they hadn't with mine) tell them what's happened, they were helpful, honest :D

Thank you thank you. just spoke to them who said that the debt can be sold on at any time hence the passing on to westcot. All the payments are up to date so she said ignore their threats. In fact she passed it to her supervisor so they can let someone important know! BTW, I'm not trying to shirk my responsibilities ... I am paying it off!
