Non-paraffin-based cream?

Options
Can anyone recommend a cream for facial /body use that does not contain any paraffin-based ingredients?

I am looking for a base cream that I can mix with drops of essential oil.

I've ordered various base lotions and potions from this company and they list all their ingredients, too.

I simply use extra virgin olive oil, as my skin reacts to everything! I wash my face in cold water (from the kitchen tap so that it hasn't gone through all the pipes), and use a sea salt + evoo scrub every so often. I also use the scrub when I shower.

Not a routine that suits everyone, but it stops my skin itching and falling off!

    Thanks Apple, that's interesting!

I eat neat olive oil every morning, and sometimes use it as a deep conditioner on my hair.

I hadn't thought to use it on my face, but as I also want a cream to use on my hands, neat olive oil might be a little bit too greasy. I use handcream every time I wash my hands, you see, as they get so dry.

If I ever try to make my own cream, olive oil would be an ingredient of that!

I have tried ordering tub of the Naturally Thinking cream, but am having trouble with the site. It doesn't appear to be a secure site for payment, so I have to think again.

I have just tried making some cream from a recipe I found, using coconut oil, (which solidifies when cool), olive oil, ground oats and some drops of essential oil.

It's good apart from the fact that despite grinding the oats finely, it does feel gritty until the cream is well rubbed in.
(The oats are used, apparently, to emulsify the oil).

When you first make it, it takes several hours to turn from a liquid into a cream state, but then stays creamy at room temperature, or solidifies if kept in the fridge.

I've been using it on my face and arms and legs.
It's probably slightly greasier than I would like, but providing you only use a little at a time, it does rub in. A little really does go a long way.
I made 150g of it for pennies. It should last a while, even if I use it on arms and legs as well as face and hands.

It was very easy to make. If anyone wants the recipe, just say.

By the way, without the essential oil, you can eat it! :D

Hi I use burt bee belly butter cream it is all natural and scent free. The only downside is it is about 13 pounds for a tub and I go through each in about 5 weeks.

Boots sometimes do 3 for 2 which is good.

There is another promising one with good simple ingredients list. The price is reasonable and I haven't tried it yet. But it is potential replacement for burt bee one.

Can I have the recipe please?

How did you grind the oats?

    105g coconut oil
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
    35g ground oats
20-40 drops of essential oil of your choice

(Essential oil must not exceed 2% of the total volume)

I ground the oats in a coffee grinder. I suppose you could use a food processor or similar. I did find it made the cream gritty, though, so maybe it wasn't fine enough, although it was like flour, so I might experiment with different oats - I used a rough-milled type -or a smaller quantity, or I might even try it without.

Melt the coconut oil in a Bain Marie or a pan inside a pan of simmering water.
    Remove from heat,
Add the olive oil and ground oats and mix well.
    Add the essential oil drops.
    Mix well.

These quantities make a rough total of around 150g cream.

    Transfer to clean jar(s).

Leave in a cool place to set, stirring well frequently. This will take several hours or even overnight.

Once set, it should have a soft, creamy texture.

I have put some in the fridge for another time, and just keep a small amount out at room temperature for daily use.

NB. It won't be white, it will be a sort of beige-brown colour.

I use frankincense drops, which is good for skin, wrinkles etc., but is expensive, so you could use rosemary.

Cosmetic grade coconut butter or shea butter from eBay - you can get solid lumps that melt onto your skin or get it whipped so it has a creamy consistency. You can add essentials oils or just smell of coconuts! You might want to read the minimalist beauty blog guide to oils and different skin types too - which explains the difference in oil types
