Does anybody know what the situation is for parents (in my case a mum) who has been at home with children and therefore not paying NI?
I stopped working 10 years ago when we moved overseas with husband's job (military), on our return I didn't work as I had a 2 yr old and was also pregnant. We are now overseas again for 3 years and I am wondering what happens with NI contributions and subsequent state pension.
Can I pay them anyway? Very confused!
Thank you for any advice.

Do you / have you claimed child benefit (in your name) from the UK? If so, that will probably give some credits which can count towards pension, although you may also need some paid ones to qualify.0

Your husband is a crown servant so you claimed CB which would have protected your state pension?
