"9. Save in relation to entry via a Premium Rate Telephone Service (see clause 10i below), any limit on the number of entries a person or household may make will be clearly stated in the competition information. Entries received in excess of this limit will be invalid and will not be entered into the competition."

...except that they never bother actually to state the limit in the comp info, so we never know!

I've been entering Channel 5 comps just once by post, just in case, whereas with most of these TV comps I'll only stop at 29 entries in case that clause still applies to postal entries.

    Number of entries (revisited)

hi, hope this helps, sent 5 an email.
Please would it be possible for someone to confirm how many postal entries can be made into each competition, as your terms and conditions does not state this.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding our competitions.

Currently, there is no general cap in place for the number of postal entries anyone can make. If we decide for any reason that a specific comp should have a postal entry cap, we would update our additional Ts & Cs for the unique comp affected. If policy were to change and we adopted a blanket postal cap across the board, we would change our general comp Ts & Cs.

We’ve listed the clauses relevant to postal entry below, for your quick reference:

    9. Save in relation to entry via a Premium Rate Telephone Service , any limit on the number of entries a person or household may make will be clearly stated in the competition information. Entries received in excess of this limit will be invalid and will not be entered into the competition.

    e. Postal entry
Where specified in the competition information as an available method of entry to the competition, postal entrants may enter the competition by sending their answer (if applicable), full name, postal and/or e-mail address and a contact telephone number (or such contact details as are requested in the competition information) to the postal address indicated in the competition information. Entries should be sent either on a postcard, or on/in a sealed envelope. Entries received in any other form may be deemed invalid.
    12. Entries submitted through agents or third parties or in bulk (i.e. more entries than a human being could submit in the time available without the use of software or other devices designed to make automated entries or, in the case of postal entries, more than one entry submitted under the same postage stamp) will not be accepted.

    13. Any entries which are incomplete, incorrect, inaudible, incomprehensible, or not received by Channel 5 will be void. An entry will not be void merely because of an obvious typing error; Channel 5 reserves the right to allow entries using a range of alternate keywords acceptable to Channel 5. All other terms and conditions apply to an alternate keyword entry. An entry to the competition will be deemed to be an invalid entry where an entrant has evaded payment of the applicable entry charges when entering the competition or, in the case of postal entry, has failed to pay and affix the correct postal charges.

Thank you for your interest in Channel 5.

    Yours sincerely

    Am I reading this right?

You'd normally send more than 29 postcard entries if the comp allowed it, but otherwise stop at 29 for ITV comps. Accepting that you'd only do this with high value prize comps it's surely not economically viable, unless you have access to free postage.

Years ago I was lucky enough to win a foreign holiday and a week in Devon within about a year of each other, but I got a shock recently when I checked back at how many comps I'd entered over the last few years x 50/60p postage. That's forgetting cards which I used to get free from cinemas but now buy 100 at a time from TKMaxx.

I've always figured that it's worth it as I've got the same chance as anyone texting or phoning for half the cost, but if there are people routinely sending in 29 postcard entries, I might as well stop right now. Or is this a wind-up?

    29 post entries x postage = £14.50??? per competition!
I'm with you, if people do this then I wont bother with my measly 1 entry anymore!
Lucky wins - Rituals Beauty Advent Calendar; Starbucks Coffee & £20 Gift Card; Amazing Hen Weekend at Dunblane Hydro; Heat Magazine Book Bundle; Le Crueset Goodies :j

Wishing everyone some magic fairy pixie dust for luck!

I understand. Yes, I've recently sent as many 29 entries to a single comp by post, using a postal service that costs less than the usual Royal Mail rate but still has a significant cost. But I've only done this for a handful of comps with very high value prizes, and only while the cheaper service lasted. And there are probably very, very few people doing so for the reasons that you point out!

The C5 comps and lower-value prizes, I just send one entry, same as anyone else.

Incidentally, I no longer bother to use postcards but cheap poundshop envelopes, self-sealed with my details written on the back. Is that cheaper than postcards?

    Best of luck...
