Can You claim VAT back?

Options
Hi

My husband is a HGV Technician and he has been told that he could claim the VAT back on tools he has bougt for work.

Does any one know if he can claim the VAT back and if so how do we go about it?

It would be fantastic if we could because he has spent £4673 on tools in the last 3 years and we have receipts! :j

Thanks

:) Foxy!!

    Hi Foxy,

I agree with Debsy. Husband can not claim VAT back for the tools that he bought as he is not VAT registered.

He can claim then as a tax deductible expense as I assume that they are essential for his job and the employer does not provide them. I would write to the tax office, enclosing photocopies of any receipts, and he should receive a repayment of tax (depending on when he bought them.)
