Cheap, Baby-friendly, flea treatment for carpets?

I can't seem to find any harmless-to-humans treatment for fleas which my cats have kindly brought it. It also needs to be inexpensive and I was wondering if any of you know of any old-style treatment which won't poison us too:confused:

    The first Winter/Spring we lived in this house .... and it got warm ... we discovered we had extra house guests :eek: ... and a small baby ...

    We used a steam cleaner (borrowed from MIL) to thoroughly clean the carpets and furniture, it took about 3 goes before we got rid of the blighters ....

    Might help.

    I'd go with whatever will work fastest that is baby safe with a little one around., wouldn't want them to be bitten.
