letter regarding very old ccj

Options
Hi, this is my first post so please be gentle.

Received a letter from Mortimer Clarke, re a ccj from 2010 or before, not quite sure how old.

They ask for payment within 14 days, or call and offer a reduced settlement.

Is this something we can ignore, or should we be concerned.

I have a photo of the letter, but don't know how to post it.

Thanks in advance

They actually quote the court reference but not the date?

If it's less than six years old it should still appear on your credit file.

If the judgement is more than six years old, and you've not been making payments and they have not tried to enforce it, there is case law to say that they are out of time to enforce this

    (This was also Mortimer Clarke)

The fact that they know this is a ccj, yet are suggesting a reduced settlement deal, may indicate that they know their options are limited.

    Hi, thanks for replying.
They mention a number, but not a date.
I've checked and can't see the same ccj on the credit file. There is one on there that we didn't know he had, but its for a different amount.
Fingers crossed they'll just go away. Me and hubby have been together for 5 years now. In that time he has accrued no further debt (the letter was his.)
    Thanks again,

It sounds like it is over six years ago. If they do try enforcement, you should object using the case law in my link and maybe get help from National Debtline.

You could let them know that you will be objecting now, or just leave it to see what they try.
