Second Job Became Main Job

Options
Hello all

I have a question regarding BR tax code.
My wife had a main job and a second job which have switched meaning the previous second job became her main job and vice versa.

Up until September 2017

Main job
Night time care assistant at a children's respite homewith a 21hrs per week contract and also had a contract with them for 200Hrs per year relief year contract. (Tax code 1150L)

Second Job
Relief teaching assistantat a local schoolzero hours contract (tax code BR)

From September 2017

Her main job became the teaching assistant post with 32hr a week contract but her tax code has remained at BR.

Her second job is now the 200hrs a year relief post she held previously withe the tax code 1150L

as she didn't leave her previous main employer she didn't receive a P45!She rang HMRC to see if she could swap her tax codes but was told it was possible but she would end up paying up to £1,000 extra in tax this year and it was better to leave things as they are (this doesn't seem correct)

Is it possible to get these tax codes moved to the correct employers? if so how can she do this.

I know it will all work out correctly in the end and she will probably receive a tax refund but we would rather get it corrected sooner rather than later.

Thank in advance for any help.

How much has she earned year to date in job 1 CA
How much has she earned year to date in job 2 TA
Is she still working with job 1 CA and getting any hours
How much will she earn in job 2 TA for whole of tax year
How much will she earn in job 1 CA for whole of tax year
How much tax has she paid year to date in each job
Has she paid any tax on job 1 CA

The tax code could be split across both jobs and decided by you but you need to carefully work out how much to allocate to each based on all the questions above. Getting it wrong could result in a large tax deduction in one month.

As we are now we'll over half way through the current tax year there may not really be any need to change anything.

All depends on high the income has been at what was the main job.
