in Cutting tax
Hello all,
And thanks in advance for your help.
I'm a Spanish national who arrived in the UK from France in October 2014. My employer at the time assigned me a PWC tax advisor to help me with my transfer from France to the UK and did a self-assessment for the period 2014/2015 on my behalf although there was no need for it.
When I left the UK in July 2016, I tried to claim my taxes using my P45 and HMRC said that since I had been enrolled by PWC to the self-assessment I should complete one for the 2016/2017 period to claim my taxes. I got an activation code for the government gateway site and I was about to do the self assessment when the site asked (for identity verification purposes) for either my UK passport (which I don't have) or my 2016/2017 P60 (which I don't have either since I left the UK halfway through the 2016 year). So now I'm stucked and unable to complete a self assessment.
How should I proceed in this case to claim my taxes? Is there any other way?
Thanks again,
Victor.

When I last attempted to do a verification online (for my mother), who also doesn't have a passport, it proved to be impossible to complete. I would suggest that calling HMRC might allow them to accept alternative means for proving your identity.0

You could download a SA form for the appropriate year (and notes) here
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/self-assessment-tax-return-sa100
and post it to HMRC with a letter explaining your circumstances and confirming your new address?0 -
