Clothes for husbands placement at outdoor centre

My husband has an 8 week placement (part of university course) at an outdoor educational centre (council run) starting end of April. He doesn't have a kit list, they apparently don't have one and he did ask for one. Has been advised that they provide a waterproof jacket (as it's branded with their logo) but needs to provide the rest himself.

He's just received his bursary (£500) and so I now need to look at what to get him.

I have no idea what activities he will be doing, could be rock climbing, kayaking, hiking etc. Mainly with kids.

He's got walking boots from mountain warehouse, big heavy clumpy things - only has jeans but has been advised not to wear those.

Where do I start? Want to spend a minimal amount for 3 days a week.

Anyone done anything similar/work somewhere similar?

Outdoor walking trousers. Plenty of choice from about £15, but the more expensive ones are better when it is wet as they shed water and dry quicker.

Start with gooutdoors website for trousers, T shirts, base layers, fleeces. Trail shoes will also be better than boots for some activities.

Also if he won't wear the clothes afterwards consider charity shop purchases.
You can get some fleeces etc that he won't mind getting wet , muddy etc in.

That's going to be my first port of call for fleeces and base layers, Harrogate has a lot of decent shops so hoping we might hit some winners!

Thanks, do you think he needs base layers or fleeces in April/may?

Lots of thin synthetic layers is good so he can adjust them himself - for instance it may be cold in bed at night and he can use one as a pyjama :-$ He may sweat in synthetic fabrics, but they dry fast.

Rohan stuff is expensive, but it might be nice to get a couple of items as they can be very versatile, so look smart but still be easily washed, no-iron, safe compartments and pockets...
