Yep, if you are assessed as having to pay full care costs, generally because of savings, you can 'self fund' and still have some oversight/reviews from social care. In Bubbs' person's case I'm not sure if he would have the capacity to manage this himself, even via an agency.

If you employ your carers directly then you are considered as an employer and there are now added things like pension schemes to consider.

Again, that is daft, cant they be self-employed/work for the angency, and become your contractors, like a builder or something? I dont know, please dont think I am saying how it is, I am just throwing ideas out there, and trying to extend my own knowledge at the same time.

    another question

I always find it horribly difficult trying to blow dry with the vented brush in one hand and the hairdryer in another. I wondered if there was such a thing as a hairdryer brush that combines both so I only need one hand
On Amazon there seems to be numerous of this type if thing, ceramic - all costing in the mid £20s - I have no idea which one is better than another ...
So what do I need to particularly look out for, what features should be on the short list
    any recommendations?
I have a 'hot brush' - a bit like a curling tong that blows hot air through the vents (cost about £20) I half dry hair with a normal dryer, then finish getting dressed , make up etc and finish off, I was going to say styling, but that is a bit grand for what I do, with this.

That is madness. If it is not specialist help, why does he not employ somebody on a part time basis? I dont know, but is there not agencys you can go to directly?

This is direct with the agency , they bath him twice a week and wash his hair, they cook his evening meal, when i have looked in the log they fill in, somedays says **** was sitting at the table, so sat and had a chat and cuppa with him, washed cups and left:eek:
I have told them over a month ago stair lift was due for service , still nothing been done about it, if it breaks he is knackered:(
It is also going up £26 pph, £32 pph weekend and b/hols:eek::eek:

    LEJC, lovely post x

Mhoc, I can only imagine how I would feel if one of mine went off to get married (I had thought DS1 may have got married secretly/had a child as he was clearly hiding something... turned out that the GF was more my age than his... and an evil woman... but I was still relieved, and even more relieved when they separated!).

Try to focus on celebrating the wedding (hold back those tears) x

I may put a posh hat on and drive through to York to support you (well sneak in a bottle of vodie for you!) x

We need a photo of the new hair, I bet it is gorgeous xxxxx

Remember my customer who is disabled and hid dad passed away? he has carers 3 times a day total 2 hrs per day, he has to pay £1,200 approx a month just for that:o Yes he can afford it but i see what they do, and tbh not allot:(

He can employ directly, there are some companies that help with employing people and all the legal stuff. I would not be surprised if it is not considerably cheaper.

Holy hell. That is significant more than the average, but then again if she has to pay she may as well have somewhere lovely whilst she can afford it. She will then have to move somewhere cheaper... which is cruel. Hope you get it all sorted. xxx
Standard charge in our area is about £500 per week, although I am aware that these prices are low compared to those in the home counties for example.
The home I want to end up in, if I ever have to, is in Sandbanks in Poole, they have butler service and a vintage Rolls Royce to take you out, chances of that, nil!!

I've come across people who employ their own care staff with support of a specialised agency who have significant cognitive impairment... some I have scratched my head about but it has worked well.

That is shocking, and the poor souls doing the work are likely on minimum wage. I know in my area, being a carer is not seen with the status that job deserves, and so not everyone in the role should really be doing that role, and some people who should be doing that role, can not afford the pay drop that would involve.

And I bet those people providing the care are paid at minimum wage
