I worked in a restaurant part-time for 2 months in 2015, June and July. I was unemployed for a year and found a job in September 2016. However my last employer forgot to tell their accountant or someone that i am no longer working there and they were sending HMRC that i earn 435 pounds per month with them! I dont care for 2015 but for 2016 when i found a different job now i have to pay additional 500 pounds of tax for work in that restaurant, where i did not work that year!
Now the problem is it was my first job, i did not know that i should receive p45 so i never asked for it. Second problem is restaurant went bankrupt in 2016 November, so it is gone!
The only proof i got is i found a job in September and apparently i worked in restaurant until November so it is 2 months of being in two places at the same time.
How can i prove that i did not work there in 2016 at all? I never received p45, i was unemployed for that time and restaurant is gone. Will they just believe me if i call HMRC and tell them that?

I'd suggest you call HMRC, explain what you've just said to them and see what they say. If it is not solved them come back and update us.0

maybe they were deliberately doing this to reduce corporation tax0

Sounds like they are on the fiddle with their company accounts. It just so happens that £435 was below the threshold which no NI is payable, but it will reduce the company tax liability0

Did you not sign on unemployed for that year?.0
