we are stuck with sky until oct 06 as it is a fixed 12 month contract, i have sold evrything we had to sell on ebay everything else whichis complete junk is waiting for the car boots to start, i had a job interview yesterday for supermarket should hear tomorrow, double checked gas/elec still the cheapest, hubby looking into broadband and telephone. Will need to think up some more money making schemes - account fee gives us cheaper overdraft already checked that one too.
you guys are so fab !!!! I could be a virtual PA as i was a sec before I had kids anyone know how to get into it ???0 -
oh and we spend whats left on food and petrol and anything else we need to do i am getting really good at beans on toast now and i do a fab bowl of somerfields own frosties LOL0

Good for you - you've done what only a few have and that is to see whats wrong. There's too many people in our line of work that are in the same situation. It's a shame that the employers are unwilling to provide some sort of financial advice as it could solve many problems before they get to an extreme level.marieb wrote:oh and we spend whats left on food and petrol and anything else we need to do i am getting really good at beans on toast now and i do a fab bowl of somerfields own frosties LOL
Keep on trying

I think if you put it in the snowball calculator you might be surprised!! £50 a month extra CAN make a difference. And even if it only comes forward by a few months - that's a few more months debt-free, right?
Think positive, otherwise you'll never bother doing anything about your debt.

Yes, not trying to discourage people from doing shaving off pennies from their budget. Like I said, it's definitely worth doing (especially sky once you get out of that contract!)
Just trying to get people thinking about the other side of the equation as well, bringing more money into the house to throw at the debts. The OP seems to not have too many obvious extravagances that can be easily cut from the budget, so thinking about extra income is a good way of bringing the debt free date closer.
The virtual sec idea is a great one - I don't know how you'd get into it, so can't offer advice in that respect. But that kind of thinking is a brilliant way to bring the debt free date ever closer...0 -
About being a virtual secretary - start by having a search on 'virtual assistant' and see what kind of services/prices other people are offering. It isn't easy to get started in that kind of work because everybody has a pc on their desk nowadays, so typing just isn't in that much demand.
But if you decide to go for it, think about your costs, what services you will offer and what prices - then get out there and advertise yourself! If you become self-employed you will need to register with the Inland Revenue within a few months of starting and keep business accounts.0 -
Thanks everyone all your comments have given me the boot up the bum that I need- I am a very impatient spoilt girl who wants it NOW hence the reason we owe so much to start with I usually get my way so I am hoping that the same will apply inpaying off what I owe still waiting to hear abut supermarket job if I dont get it I will ask my current boss for some extra work on sundays failing that I will try elsewhere. I will look into some more virtual sec info . Thanks everyone XXX0
