Wish I had kept all of them now, as that one is very tame compared to the tone of others I had at the time.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

A quick Google shows that more recent letters continues giving that impression, even quite clearly say that:
"we have been instructed by our client"
As in the letter below, which for clarity is not one of mine.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Does say at the bottom that Smith Lawson is a trading name of the Student Loans Company.
Anybody can write letters of this nature.0 -
If the debt recovery firm is actually just a trading name or part of the firm you owe the debt to, look for clues on the letter you receive. In the SLC's case, it was in the small print.
Should have gone to Specsavers0 -
where does any of the letters say it is a debt collection agency, it says recovery service ? And doesn't every high street bank have an in house recovery with a different name?Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I like that they've invented a name which matches the initials of the Student Loan Company...
Also that they've provided an 0845 number!
I don't find this any different to the 'Police Warning!' pop up you get online sometimes which informs you that your browser has been locked for downloading inappropriate* materials and the police will come around unless you pay a £100 fine within 24 hours.
Pure and simple it's designed to panic you into making a payment regardless of if you can afford to or not!
I was looking at a Japanese transformers site btw LOL nothing which is actually inappropriate... The dogs!

yet another dodgy method of extracting monies.
i say if companies like this are found to have been using dirty tactics then all those that have been victims of such activities should have their original debts written off.
and additionally the company pays them compensation for the distress these letters have caused.
you'll probably find they'll soon clean their act up!0 -
Carrots and sticks.
If they can't say the Bogeyman will get you, all that's left is Santa Claus won't come if you are naughty and don't pay up.0 -
I am currently in dispute with sfe regarding a dependants grant I was awarded by my local authority back in 1999.
