Baliff just called, Elec bill we are repaying??

Hi

Just returned from the school run and my wife informs me a baliff has just called about our Electricity bill.

We got behind over the last year but spoke to them (Scottish Electric) and sent up a DD that would (Should) of covered both this year and the outstanding debt. *This also applies to Gas*

For the last 5 months we have paid the agreed amount they stated by DD (we had to switch bank accounts twice but still payments were made)
Now today the baliff has called for the Electricity debt, my wife is currently on the phone to them but apparently it wont clear in the time scale they would like and because we have changed bank accounts we are no longer suitable for DD and are in the process for applying for a pre pay meter.

Can they do this if we have kept our end of the deal and made the payments they requested?

To me this is a case of deal with the Organ Grinder not the monkey. I personally would only deal with companies I had an agreement with not the debt collectors they tried to pass it on to. Speak to Scottish Electric, inform them firmly but politely that you have been paying as agreed and that should they continue to use harassing tactics you will be making a complaint to the Ombudsman. Companies don't like complaints.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

The issue is because of usage has increased and so have their prices in the last 3 months.
We won't be charged for the visit today and our gas DD had increased but the electric one they wanted to increase from £95 to £300 which we can't afford.
They want to install a meter which would charge £12 a week on top of the near £90 we are now using a month.
They are sending a guy around on Friday to discuss the debt as we told them we don't want a meter.
I've worked we can afford to double the electric DD and possibly to £200, should I try to offer them this as I will be working Friday and would rather not leave my wife to deal with this alone even though the account is in her name
