handed keys back

hi all

i recently sent my keys back to mortgage company for them to repossess my property. last week a friend had informed me that the door was open and a locksmiths van was outside.

so obviously the locks have been changed, anyone know where i go from here?ive still been paying council tax for the property, with the locks being changed does that mean i am no longer liable for council tax? will the council need any sort of proof? how can i prove that the property is emply and that the locks have been changed as i have no contact with mortgage company regarding the voluntary repossession.

thanks

don't you have a repossession order from a court? I handed the keys back to my mortgage provider but they still had to apply for repossession through the court to make it legally theirs..I contacted the council and told them the date of the repossession order, sent them a copy and that was the date I stopped paying council tax for it

    Hi,

Since April this year, the rules around discounts and CTB have been devolved to local authorities, so the rules can now differ from council to council.
You should contact your local council tax recoveries team and / or local advice providers re the current situation in your area.

the council no longer do the 6month exemption on empty properties that they used to do in my area. just wondering how much longer i will have to pay it now that locks have been changed.

Hi I would phone then today as D.D says rules have changed and they are all different, in my experience the council tax is still your responsibility until the repo has gone through the courts and it then belongs to the mortgage company, but please call the council today I would have thought they would need your new address as would the energy suppliers for your final bills.
    good luck x

Clearly the OP is trying to do a bunk, as they haven't provided the lender with their new address.

So they would hardly contact energy suppliers or the council for the purposes of forwarding bills....

As soon as the Mortgage company have legal possesion, as they have changed the locks would assume this (but maybe phone them to find out, dont need to give an address or "make a mistake" when you do...., to be honest it is of little benefit not giving it as most people are easy to find nowadays) you are no longer responsible for CT or any utilities, you just need to tell them and give details of who now has possesion.

Good luck, remember though sign nothing from the mortgage company..

    just an update.

drove past the property today seen the postman so stopped and asked if he had any mail for me he asked what was wrong with my letterbox so theyve obviously blocked that up.

went to council offices to explain everything and gave them the name of the bank, they said not to make anymore payments but to hang on to my bill and if they needed anymore details they would be in touch with me.
