the 5-2 plan - 5 days of normal eating, and 2 days of restricting your calorie intake. ...check out this week's horizon program on BBC iplayer (available for next 4 days) which is all about this topic to find out the amazing results the presenter got after 5 days on the 5-2 plan.

So that was after 5 days of normal eating? ;)

Here are a few free websites that may be of use...

www.walkit.com - finds urban walks in your area tailored to the time or distance you want to walk

www.walkjogrun.net - you can plan routes and it will tell you how many cals and how far you've gone

www.myfitnesspal.com - logs cals and exercise done

www.runmyroute.com - allows you to plan routes for walks, bike rides, runs etc, gives distance and a free diary to log exercise

I second getting a dog or borrowing one - you can't not walk then!

Google your council website and look for Health Walks - free and for all abilities.

Groupon has a good offer on right now for Military Fitness classes. 10 sessions for only £24 (81% off) which = to about £100 off altogether. You better hurry though it finishes on the 9th

    I can't see it :(

    Perhaps it finished early?
I am employed as a manager in a financial services institution. My views are entirely my own.
  • Boot fairs are brilliant places to find bargains - so if you want some new cookery books - all low fat, low anything you can find them very cheaply and don't be afraid to bargain, takes courage I know but I've got some great bargains.

Walking around the boot fair can also be a great way to lose weight - I walk up and down each row, when I'm ok to do so as I had my knee and shin bone broken by a dog 3 years ago and sometimes I cannot walk at all - like the last 2 weeks I've been stuck in the house!

I have lost a stone in the last 8 weeks - nothing the last week, but I haven't put on which I am very happy about considering I can't move much at present!

I've cut all my meals right down in size, at least half or more and cut out a lot of the fattening stuff - but I still have some treats, when I want a packet of crisps I have them but I do try to cut down somewhere else or walk more if I eat more now. I love sweet stuff so I've bought some boiled sweets as it takes ages to suck one and I don't eat them continously - maybe 4 in an evening when I'm on my computer mostly.

I have found that sometimes when I'm not losing weight I need to eat a bit more and then I lose?!

Being diabetic (on insulin) is harder as sometimes I have to eat if my blood sugar falls too low - that's really annoying if I'm not hungry! So I also always have pasta, rice or potatoes with a meal - but it depends on how you cook and serve them as to whether you lose. I like chips, so I still have them but have cut down the portion size to less than half. I love new pototoes crushed with a fork - with the skins on is easier to cook and better for you.

Look up recipes online - cut out the oils - instead of frying in oil, dry fry - most things you can or use stock to cook things like onions etc. Just think how can I reduce the calories in that.

Watch the Hairy Bikers - they have a new series on losing weight and recipes - really good. Last week they used leeks instead of pasta to make lasagna - you can find it on BBC I believe.

Cut out sugar - sweetener in tea/coffee, diet drinks, don't drink fruit juices (full of sugar), grapes are full of sugar too! Just eat a little of what you fancy - I have 4-6 grapes, strawberries are very low in calories, black cherries, blueberries etc - just look up the calories first online to check out if they're high or low.

    Good luck!

Does anyone know anything that a physically disabled person can do?

I go to physio every week, but the exercises aren't going to lose me any weight.

I have arthritis in my hip and lower back so walking is out of the question.
There are some websites that might help. The best thing would be to look online but here are a couple.
    http://www.livestrong.com/article/174787-stomach-exercises-for-the-disabled/
www.arthritiscare.org.uk (go to Exercisebooklet2011.pdf) or try opening this Doing Sport Differentlysacore:green.gif

    Hope some of this helps.
  • Bought Just Dance 3 on the wii second hand, so do the sweat count on that 3-4 times a week, walk for an hour if i cant be bothered with that, i also calorie count using the my fitness website/app which allows me to track whats going in, what im burning and i can track my weight loss too. Been doing this since may with the odd week off and lost 12lb so far!

sorry but anything that cuts out food groups entirely is a fad diet. it might help you lose weight in the short term but won't re-educate your eating habits long-term.

i agree with earlier poster who said it's easier to do exercise if you find something you enjoy - i find it hard to get motivated and was bored to death at the gym but find running outside more enjoyable, especially with a goal like RfL to aim for. looking on the bright side (ahem) it's less knackering to run when it's not so hot (scraping the barrel i know, sorry!)
  • BodyrockTV has to be the BEST free workout program out there! They are on youtube, facebook and on their own website and they promote clean eating and training hard for 12mins a day with high intensity interval training.

There are new workouts posted almost daily so there is no chance of you getting bored, I've been bodyrocking since march and I love it! I am seeing muscle, weight loss, stamina and strength, it really is amazing.

you can start anywhere really, just pick a video out of hundreds that looks doo-able at your level and jump in, it really is that easy to start. Get on over to the facebook page for diet and training tips and also any help, its a really friendly community who are always happy to share advice.

Do some research on intermittent fasting, it is easier than you think and has many other fabulous health benefits such as prolonging life/health and reducing the risk of cancer xx
