Health warning to fake tanners.

A “cocktail” of chemicals in bestselling lotions may pose a risk to a person’s health such as fertility problems, birth defects and even cancer, experts said.

Dangerous ingredients can also include hormone-disrupting compounds – which can harm babies – as well as carcinogens including formaldehyde and nitrosamines.

The increased use of fake-tan products can also have skin irritants and chemicals linked to allergies, diabetes, obesity and fertility problems.

Public health messages are of limited use. You take notice because you're educated and health-savvy but you don't need the warnings as you already look after yourself; in fact they simply serve to irritate. Those that actually would benefit from health warnings either don't notice them, or find them irrelevant.

Begs the question.. what's the point?

I know people like this too, their skin looks like old boot leather, horrid! I am naturally quite tanned but even if I wasn't I would have no desire to use fake tan or the like, I think it looks awful and very cheap.

No not at all. The complete opposite. I think it's about time people realised the dangers of all these products and man made chemicals. They're killing us.

I only use it on my legs, not to make them brown but to match the colour of the rest of me. Nobody wants to see fat pasty white legs as I cycle past.

The average "Essex girl" has a face and skin tone that acts as a very effective contraceptive as far as I am concerned.

I was very careful to differentiate between Essex Girls and Girls from Essex.

The former can come from anywhere.
