"The official measure of inflation — the Consumer Price Index — fell to 3% in April, a 26-month low, as high street discounts eased the pressure on households."

OMG "fell to 3%" , "26-month low", "eased the pressure on households" you do understand 3% is a inflation figure i.e prices are still going up, no one is getting a >3% pay rise I know of (except Martin whose %rise keeps making my calculator show E) so we are all still suffering however our suffering is getting worse slower

Not for the things I buy. Food prices did infact go up on quite a few of the things I buy. Sorry, your story is wrong for me.

"...... while 'money-off your whole shop' and petrol discount vouchers are the key battlegrounds for competing supermarkets."

What world do these people live in? If you have a large family and spending £40, £50, £60 in one go is normal then OK, money off is fine, likewise if you spend enough to get the petrol vouchers and actually buy petrol!

A single person on a very tight budget sees individual items go up week on week - how does Mr Robertson reckon the money off whole shop and petrol vouchers helps them?

So now what excuse are the supermarkets going to use for putting prices up.

    Not that they need one.
