Does this £870 include the popcorn and drinks they would doubtlessly have consumed at the cinema? I'd have thought the potential saving would be much higher.
And what would they record anyway. They'll have seen all the films on Sky, DVD & at the cinema.
I think you'd struggle to find a family who'd be happy going from regular cinema outings & watching all the latest films at home, to watching old stuff on Freeview/sat.0 -
I rarely go to the cinema anyway. Turn over from screen to disc is so fast these days that I tend to wait until I can add it to my LoveFilm queue. We have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

I think there is a bit of a point here, and there's money to be saved.
I think a lot of people pay the big subscription to that mystery satellite TV provider for the film channels. Now, if they watch the latest films often (several times a month) they may be getting good value. I guess, however, that a lot of people pay it and don't watch enough (or watch old films available on Freeview) to justify the cost.
These people should cancel the sub. They can then watch the newer films and pay for each one individually, or goto the cinema, or record from one of the free channels.0 -
any monesaver worth their salt would only pay for dvds with survey vouchers when the are reduced to £2.99 or less and only go to the flicks on a wednesday with orange. i remember years ago getting suckered into a cheap deal with NTL never again will i get sucked into cable tv cos they have a nasty habit of multiplying the price year on year. its freeview all the way these days.Wins: 2008: £606.10 2009: £806.24 2010: £713.47 2011: 328.320

Or buy DVD's for £1 at the car boot.0 -
My Sky subscription usually gets me 2 free movies a month at the cinema through Sky perks so that gets factored in as well!"Sealed Pot challenge" member No. 138

I try to capture movies on my Freeview recorder (PVR) to save for another time / company.
Lucky sometimes I catch something to record already on my mind before buying. (I caught some Statham films before buying but had just bought some too)
Rabbit Proof Fence / My Fair Lady / Spirited Away / On Golden Pond / My Super Ex Girlfriend / 2046 / The Colour Of Magic I + II / The Shawshank Redemption / Small Time Crooks / You, The Living / Full Metal Jacket / Roman Holiday / Cat in The Hat / The Libertime / She, a Chinese I've got saved up.
Saves money by not buying, renting films. going out and subscribing to pay tv.0
