It may not just be her style, it may also be the type of driving. For example if you used it for a long distance trip involving A roads and motorways that will give a better figure than short hops to the shops involving lots of stopping and starting and the choke being used for much of the trip, no matter how carefully it was driven.0

The "blobs" on a smart aren't especially accurate. Did you do a full tank and mileage measurement?
Besides a smart is more that £5 more "fun" when driving that way
(My Brabus does 40ish mpg with roof down)0 -
Agree with Reaper about the type of driving.
The other thing I wondered was whether you, Martin, normally drive alone while Mrs MSE normally takes a passenger? The extra weight is significant. Even the weight of our small children makes a difference in MPG in our people carrier. An extra adult in a Smart car is going to make a big difference.0 -
Wow! Who knew? Very enlightening!0

Don't worry I'd factored in the differences.
If anyone normally drives with a passenger its me (mrs mse is the passenger)
Plus I'm almost always strictly urban driving, Mrs MSE takes it further - so all in all if anything it should help not hinder.
Its primarily driving style differencesMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

... and I thought this thread was referring to LPG....
Why aren't more people switching over (or maybe I should keep quiet as if it ever becomes a significant switch then I guess prices/tax will increase (still happy paying 69.9p/L instead of £1.35!!). I'm on my 4th LPG car now and wish I'd done it sooner.0 -
I will say I am a bit of a gas guzzler but I do know its my driving style, but I do maintain my car makes me do it (its small, nippy and noisey). My other half said I was talking rubbish until she borrowed the car and drove it like I do.
I know one thing my better half use to do which annoyed me was not holding revs for certain speeds so the pedal is like on/off/on/off/on/off every few seconds to hold it at 30/40mph, I think we have slowly got her out of that habit.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

The Smart has always had a problem achieving anywhere near it's claimed MPG figures. There's quite a few miffed people on Smart Forums and one or two who have posted on MSE regarding the poor MPG of their little roller skate.
Mrs V annoys me when she makes a phone call in the car. Invariably she leaves the engine idling for her "short" twenty minute call. The man without a signature.0 -

Incidentally, though, what is the time limit of standing still that makes it worth switching off the engine? (Specifically, in my case, in an old diesel?)0 -
