I wonder if there are any current proposals for a syllabus? If not, perhaps Martin could consider putting an outline together. It would be good if any final syllabus is uninfluenced by the desires of financial institutions, and not only takes a a hard line on non-essential debt but particularly on things like credit card debt and payday loans, with an overarching emphasis on living within your means. Otherwise we could end up with the financial equivalent of a "McDonald's-sponsored healthy eating curriculum".

Great that this has some momentum now - well done Martin for championing it.

Having delivered financial training in schools myself, I hope it is focused on principles of budgeting and debt and about where to go for advice.

No point teaching kids about the details of mortgages, credit cards and payday loans when they can't legally sign a credit agreement until they are 18 anyway.

But if they can remember the basics about living within your means and only borrowing money to finance assets such as cars, education, houses rather than a good night out, holiday or wardrobe then fantastic.
