This is the discussion thread for the following MSE News Story:
"The plans form part of moves to generate an additional £7 billion in tax by the 2014/15 financial year ..."

It would be easier to understand these consistently "sexed up" MSE headlines if the occasional source was posted.
[STRIKE]I understood that this £900m/£7b/outsourcing to debt collection agencies initiative was about clamping down on tax dodgers, and specifically looking at those in the 50p tax band.
[/STRIKE][STRIKE]Does MSE now equate the term tax dodger (someone who chooses to deliberately not pay tax) with families struggling to pay tax (would like to pay but cant).[/STRIKE]
EDIT: Appears Guy has now edited the story to remove the unkind, un-sourced reference that I commented on.
The original story read "The Government will employ professional debt collectors to recover tax from families struggling to pay"
Which of course isn't true (well, the struggling family part anyway - this is about Fraud and Tax Dodgers not people who'd like to pay but cant).....

Here is my all-be-it untrusted source

Or is Guy aware of something the other journo's arent?
(if so, please post a source)
So at a rate of 40% tax, Clegg will have to pay an extra 12 pieces of silver to the exchequer next year.0 -
For-profit companies will employ heavies and will make false claims. And how is it cheaper when they take their generous cut from tax revenue first? And just how many MP's will be involved with those companies in a 'private' capacity?
This is a new appearance of a very old abuse: Tax Farming."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
What a nice government we have *roll eyes*The Daleks Reign Supreme, All Hail The Daleks!0

What if we call in the debt collectors to recover monies owed to us ?
Where should we send them - number 11 ?0 -
How much are the private companies being paid? Surely this should be made public.0

You can raise a FOI request if you are that interested !!
They will have to offer an answer (of sorts)...0
