  • I've used Specsavers for years and due to numerous problems with my eyes, rely heavily on their aftercare service which is excellent. Over the years I've tried many lenses from their range, and used their £8.00 ones which unfortunately no longer suit me and I have to pay £11.00 - both monthly ones.

As I haven't used many lenses lately, I'm well ahead, and they have suspended my direct debit for 3 months because I've got too many lenses.

Perhaps you could try the cheaper £8.00 ones?
Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!
  • I have astigmatism in both eyes and have to have toric lenses so i cant go any cheaper but i have just had a chat with the lady in specsavers and she says as i am due for sight test lense check and probably new glasses i should hang on as the lenses that will come in march will not be paid for until Jun as they charge in arrears and once you actually add up the cost of contact lense check £ 20 and lenses and solutions there is not much in it. Plus obviously the replacement if i loose one so i shall hang on .

    Debt-free and Proud!
What I have done since joining this site:

    got a lodger - £350 a month tax free

rented out my garage for an up-front lump sum of £300 (ish, can't remember now, used it to pay most of cc off)

got a second job on saturdays, average two a month - £212 net

and cut things down of course!

I am also about to list a load of shoes on ebay as I have too much stuff! Hopefully that will net some £££ as well.

I had to take a 2nd job too to really make a dent in my debt, plus I felt I would rather be out there earning money than being stuck at home evenings/weekends because I couldnt afford to spend any!! It was tough, but it definately made a difference!!

If you cant reduce you outgoings any further then you need to look at increasing your incomings.

I also think that even if you can knock a month or 2 off your DFD, then it is still a month or 2 closer to having money that doesnt belong to the bank manager!! My aim was to be debt free by December 2005 and I managed it in October 2005.

You can do it, keep up the good work. xx

Marieb, If i remeber correctly you may not be able to cancel your SKY in the 12 months but im sure you can remove the movies and sports channels and these take it down to £21 a month if im correct .... might be worth finding out about.
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

  • Hi roswell
Thanks fo that- unfortunatley we have sky plus well not cause it is fab cause we can record all the things we dont get chance to watch and watch them at our leisure so we would have to pay the extra £10 for that if we didnt keep the movies or sports we opted for movies as we get the disney channel so technically we have got two for the price of one ha ha but i did manage to squeeze an £8.50 a month discount from NTL because i asked nicely the sky thing will just have to wait for now and i can keep looking for ways to cut stuff out, basically what cripples us is the loan payments that go out everyy month, we had a loan break for 4 months when we took it out and as we were still leaving on the world of dont worry we will pay it later we missed out on saving 2,000 by paying the money off our debts in the first place- so cross withself for that one, still we are now new and improved and a darn site wiser.
