Do creditors ever accept you offer of payment?

Last month I wrote to all my creditors and informed them of my inablility to keep up with the current payments. I used the budget plan and creditors list that the CCCS sent me in my self help pack and sent my creditors copies of these so that they can hopefully see what I am up against.
One by one they have all written back saying they will not accept my offer and are passing it to debt collection agencies if I cannot increase my payments. Is this normal for this to happen?
I decided to phone the Abbey regarding my loan and the lady I spoke to was so rude and obnoxious it kind of put me on a right downer. She told me that they only deal with the CCCS directly and the letters I had used were not worth the paper the were printed on! She then proceeded to tell me that if I had got the CCCS to contact them they would have accepted my offer but there was no way they will be doing that now.
Now my catalogue company have written to me not accepting my offer and will start adding £15 admin charges which really is not going to help the situation.
Do offers evertually get accepted once they are passed to the debt collecting agencies? I'm starting to wonder if I've done the right thing by using the CCCS's help pack and letters and they don't seem to be working very well. From what I have read on here most people have used their DMP to pay their creditors and I am wondering why I wasn't offered this service when I telephone them.
Sorry to waffle on but I needed to get it all off my chest otherwise I'll go mad!!!!!
Oh I forgot to say that I have still made payments to my creditors but only the amounts that I have said I can afford to pay.

Obviously most creditors are not going to particularly nice and are unlikely to accept your first offer. You need to be thick skinned...they are just doing their job and anyway they dont know whether you are honest and decent or someone simply trying to avoid paying your debts.
As you have already spoken to CCCS I would suggest that you phone them again and ask them how to proceed.
You may wish to provide more details of your situation including posting a SoA so people are able to offer advice/experiences etc. Withou knowing your level of debt or income/expenditure/ assett etc its not possible to comment.EU tariff on agricultual product 12.2%

I have already posted my soa on a previous post some weeks back.
Phoned the CCCS and they said not to worry too much about it as when it is passed to the debt collections agencies they are more likely to accept the offer that I make.
Oh well fingers crossed then!!

yes they will not in general accept your offer, when it goes to debt collectors they will again try and make you pay more than you can afford pay only what you and cccs say you can afford ,be prepared for a rough ride but stick your heals in dont be brow beaton ,pay what you can afford and eventually up it as you go on and your circumstances improve0

The way I see it , they are ona hiding to nothing in my case. I have a car worth £1400 and thats it . All my other stuff is needed for my job. I have CD`s dvds etc worth around £500 if sold at auction. At some point , thay are going to have to accept payment or bankrupt me.
They wont do the latter as there is no winner.
Those companies that are phoning me and bein obnoxious have been told to remove me from their phone list and put everything in writing.
The few who are understanding (including one who asked if I needed counselling by an independant counsellor in dealing with stress) I will tlak to on the phone.
You cnat get blood from a stone.
I certainly havent been loosing sleep. they have had there Feb payments and in next week will get the March ones.
Just follow the process.
As for not being worth the paper they have been written on , well , if it ended up in court , they are your offers and they are what you have written to the bank. For them to say they are worthless is silly as , if that wa sme , I would ask for recordings of conversations etc...... Put them on the spot.0 -
Hi ya Chops,
I had years of writing to creditors, CCJ's, etc. You name it we ended up having to deal with it. We were seeking advise from the CAB who I found to be fantastic, once you finally managed to get to see them. Long waiting lists usually. In the end I learnt so much from them about how to handle debt/creditors I just ended up doing it all myself.
The long and the short of it is that when you write to your creditors make sure you enclose SOA that shows exactly what comes in what goes out and to who. I even had creditors listed that had to wait for payment until another debt had been cleared as we just didn't have the available funds to cover even minimal payments to all of them. But always enclose a cheque for the amount of your monthly offer. And don't budge from it. If it's all you can afford then it's all you can give.
We had a CCJ hearing once where the creditor had not only already reposssed our car they also wanted £50 a month to pay off what was outstanding. We couldn't do it, and the judge agreed. I'll never forget what she said to them. I quote 'It is clear this couple are in severe financial difficulties. It is ridiculous to ask for this amount that they clearly cannot afford. You 'will' accept payments of £10 a month.' Which is what we had originally offered. We owed £1500 or so. Common sense did prevail!
We did have the last laugh on these 'nasty creditors' and they were nasty. Hubby lost his job and we ended up decreasing it even further to £1 a month. I sent this every month requesting a receipt by return, which they did. In the end they got so hacked off that a couple of years down the line they accepted £200 odd as full and final settlement just to get rid of us.
Your doing the right thing. Always correspond by post and keep a copy of everything you send. That way you know exactly what has been said. Phone calls are normally useless as you end up talking to so many different people who don't always do their jobs properly.
Don't be frightened of bullying tactics. It really will come right in the end. Cos remember it won't last forever there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Right waffling over. Hope it helps though!

Just wanted to say thanks for your helpful advice. :T :T Some of you it seems have had far worse situations to deal with than me and I really do feel for you. I seem to be worrying over nothing in comparison!!
A bit of an update on the Abbey situation. They telephoned me this morning to say that I was in arrears. So i explained my situation again and that they should have a record of my budget and a lists of my creditors and that I have made a payment this month of the amount that I can afford. The lady I spoke to couldn't have been more helpful! i was shocked!!
She explained what would happen now and that I was totally doing the right thing by keeping up with paying only what I can afford. She said that they only pass files to debt collection agencies when the account is three months in arrears so that wont happen to me for a few months yet as my original monthly payment was £156, I am about £67 in arrears plus I am paying £86 per month. I said that I will revise my payments in about 6 months time and see if I can increase them at all.
She said she will put a note on my file to say that I had not had a very good experience with the previous person I spoke to and although she cannot stop all the harrassing phone calls, she will try to get most of them stopped - we shall see!!!
All she advised me to do was keep up with the payments and whoever phoned up just tell them I am paying all that I can afford.
I feel a bit more positive now. Well at least until I receive the next horrible letter/phone call!!!
