WIN Tickets to 1000 Bikes Festival

ago.jpgThe Leicestershire circuit was the scene of what is still remembered as one of the greatest road races ever seen in Britain - Ago and 500 MV-3 v John ‘Mooneyes’ Cooper on the works BSA Rocket III at the 1971 Race of the Year. Cooper’s win sent the 50,000 crowd ecstatic and both men will be in action together during this meeting’s past masters parade laps. Cooper has got his hands on a BSA triple while Ago will be riding a 1976 MV 500-4 on loan from owner Ray Marchant.

Ago’s great Grand Prix rival Phil Read is riding too, though Ago jokingly told MCM: "We are not going to let him join in - he is too old." Read will be riding a 750 F2 Laverda and 500 Paton. Other top names on the bill include Mick Grant, Sammy Miller, Ron Chandler, Frank Perris, Charlie Williams and Chris Vincent.

Vincent is down to ride a Norton rotary outfit and the National Motorcycle Museum will be fielding a fleet of their works Norton rotary racers including the version they have funded former factory race chief Brian Crighton to develop for the 2008 season.

The two-day festival has been re-established as one of the highlights of the classic calendar since its revival by the VMCC in 2006 and this year’s programme, backed by our sister publications the Classic MotorCycle, Old Bike Mart and Classic Racer, is packed with more things than ever to see and do. That bill includes a concours competition, grass track, pre-65 trial, sprint demo, club stands and displays, trade stands, entertainment marquee and Ace Caf! stage with live bands on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.

The VMCC have given us six pairs of tickets for this free-to-enter draw. Great prize but even if you win it’s still worth dipping into your pocket and spending a few quid for the opportunity to also put in a few laps of the track on your own bike. All the places in the sessions for race machines have already been snapped up but if you are quick - very quick - you might still be in time to book a Saturday session on your road bike. That will cost non-club members £32 for the first session and £21 for each of up to three more outings. We will be carrying a full preview of the event next month but get your entry into our ticket competition now.
