The Italian Magazine: Win! A holiday for up to four people in Puglia
Villa Sant’Annina is a magnificent restored country house set in wonderful rustic grounds with stunning panoramic views, where the owners harvest everything from olives and almonds to clementines and avocados.
The property has been lovingly restored, with parts (the lovely stone trullo and lamia) dating back hundreds of years. Inside, the refurbishment has been a real labour of love. The kitchens and bathrooms are all brand new, and the whole property has been redecorated throughout. It has been cleverly split into three private wings, sleeping four, four and eight guests; or it can be rented as a whole, sleeping up to 16 people. For this reason, the property is equally wonderful for families holidaying together, or for smaller parties wanting more privacy.
The grounds extend to 9,000 square metres, and include a large kidney-shaped swimming pool and full-size tennis court. There are plenty of lovely places to sit outside, around the pool beneath a shaded gazebo, and on the private terraces and roof terrace. The grounds offer a mini Garden of Eden, with a wonderful selection of citrus, olive, almond and soft fruit trees. They are quite rugged in places, and great for walking around and for kids to explore.
The villa is in a fantastic position for exploring Puglia. The region is widely considered to be one of the most unspoilt in Italy – un vero paradiso! The historic towns of Cisternino and Ostuni are just minutes away by car. Here you can wander the cobbled ancient streets, discover wonderful restaurants and bars where you will enjoy the best food in Italy, meet the friendliest locals, and enjoy a great market selling everything from local produce to the famous Francavilla pottery.
The region’s best (blue flag) beaches are just a 15-minute (and very pleasant) drive away, as is Fasanoland, a superb theme park/safari park. There are countless stunning towns to visit nearby, from Ostuni and Martina Franca to the ‘Florence of the South’, Lecce.
