Dida Diafat, a French-born boxing champion, plays Ryan in Chok-Dee, an action-packed story based on his own life experiences as the first Westerner to win the Thai kickboxing championships. This account of his true-life ascent from a lowlife thug to Thai kickboxing champion will be available for the first time on DVD from June 9.
Serving time in prison for robbery, Ryan is a rebellious punk whose time in prison is about to come to an end. Whilst behind bars, he meets Jean (Bernard Giraudeau), a Thai boxing instructor who sees his potential and urges him to go to Bangkok’s famed Lukbarnaye camp to learn kickboxing. At first he is refused admission by the camp’s trainers because he is French, but Ryan persists and vows to break the barrier and become one of the world’s best fighters.
