Redundancy

Hi folks,

I didn't know where to put this. Maybe you can help? It has recently been indicated to my boyfriend that he may well get made redundant within the next 12 months. Okay, so 12 months is a long time in the world, but where does he stand legally? He's been working for the same company for over 2 years (and before he went to do an MSc he worked there for 4 years). There are going to be "cut backs" and he over heard that his department would be scrapped.

Where does he stand? I know that he's on a 1 month notice period. What money are they legally entitled to give him, considering he's worked there in his current position for over 2 years and probably 3 years by the time he gets (if) made redundant.

Is he best to start looking for another job now? Or wait until he gets made redundant? He's thinking about moving on anyway, but this is quite unsettling and at the moment a job is better than no job for him - especially as I'm a student at the mo and he's supporting me!

Any advice is gratefully received.
