Wind power direct into mains for £1500

Options
Thinking about mounting a wind generator on the side of the house using

https://www.windsave.co.uk

All the figures seem to add up. 1/3rd off electricity bill. £60 per year back off government for using renewable resource and even the possibility of a grant for the install which would further reduce the cost.

I reckon less than 5yrs for payback which is better than solar panels.

I even don't mind the look.

Big question is noise!!!

Has anyone had any experience of how annoying the noise pollution is? If they are virtually silent then great!!

Available from the start of next year.

  • Remember that wind energy varies with the cube of the wind speed - so if you live in an area where the wind is only mild (rather than blowing strong) much of the time - that "1/3rd" off the bill will be unachievable (unless you are a very light electricity user).

I would suggest getting some sort of survey of average wind speed in your area before investing £1500.

It really does get confusing when you open an identical thread in different boards.

The information about noise is found on one of their website pages. Though it may not be the absolute level of the noise which annoys, but the actual sound...

MrJudi and myself are very interested in alternative methods of powering the home. However, i am wondering what the neighbours would say with that stuck in my garden. Also i live right on the top of a hill - i would be terrified if it blew off and damaged something or someone during a gale. Funny i should be worried about it now, i used to have a huge sigma 4 cb antenna strapped to the chimney 20 years ago.:o It didnt look pretty but we could talk to others on the other side of the world.:D
