Hi
Has anyone had their tonsils removed as an adult? Is it very painful? How long am I likely to be off work for?
Thanks

Unfortunately as this operation is usually done on under 15's it's not particularly helpful for you.

Yes I have, when I was 24 and it was not a nice operation.
I had been plagues with tonsilitis for years and was getting it every two months or so and out they came.
Just think of the pain as you worst ever sore throat and hopefully you wont get complications like I did (spewed up blood, ear infection)
They did make me eat cornflakes for breakfast, but then I also got ice cream. You need to eat something before you are discharged so they can see that you swallow.
It will be worth it in the long run, but at least a couple of weeks off work after the op.****************************0 -
My mother had this done in her sixties and it was painful - what helped was soluble Codis which reduced the pain. This was 30 years ago so hopefully things have moved on."This site is addictive!"

What you have to remember is that the 'cure' is a one off.
Tonsilitis will plague you forever!
A few days of discomfort and the freedom forever!!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
