Sensitive skin/eczema etc

If you have sensitive skin, stop using fabric softeners, only use half dose of a non-bio powder-Fairy I found was the gentlest-most importantly, put your machine on an extra rinse!

with a daughter with eczema I found those tips helpful too....and even though her skin is so much better now, i still use much less powder than the packet recommends. Which is also why I buy powder rather than those tablet soap powders....
When her skin was very bad I used the fragrance free special range from Boots....but I have to say I missed the smell of clean clothes!

It may be a question of 'trial and error' - I have always found the supermarket own brand non-bio the best, until one supermarket changed the formula and it wasn't suitable any more. But most are fine.

As for fabric conditioner, some people can get away with using small amounts of unperfumed varieties. I only use a tiny amount. Of course the Old Stylers would say vinegar is better anyway.

  • As a qualified Massage Therapist I come across this sort of thing on a regular basis. As savvy-su says it can be a case of trial and error.

As this is a money saving webpage though here are some things you may find useful:

Jojoba oil (for massage) is available from any SALLY hair and beauty store, although it is expensive as an outlay 200ml bottle typically £6:00+ It does not go off if it is stored in a cool dark space. It is very good for dry skin, mature skin, and sensitive skin because it contains large amounts of Vitamin E. If you put less than a teaspoon in the palm of your hand and rub it into the affected area everyday you will probably notice a difference at the end of the week, a little goes a long way!

    To make it go further:
Mix 10% of Jojoba to another 'carrier' oil such as Grapeseed also available from SALLY, ('carriers' most of you will be familiar with are olive oil and sweet almond oil, but don't use the commercial preparations as these are for cooking only.)

To make your washing smell good add a one to two drops of essential oil (also available from SALLY)of Lemon (or whatever takes your fancy) to your washing before you start the machine (tea tree is good if you have ill children) Its all completely natural so shouldn't cause any problems.

I will state it is a case of trial and error, I am sensitive to all washing powder except Fairy ( I was using the liquid, until they changed the formula).

    Hope this helps!
