Based on Brendan Behan’s autobiographical novel, this film by director Peter Sheridan is an emotionally moving coming-of-age drama starring the young American actor Shawn Hatosy. Sixteen year-old republican Behan is apprehended on an IRA bombing mission from Ireland to Liverpool during the Second World War and sent to a Borstal in East Anglia, where he is forced to live face-to-face with those he perceived as ‘the enemy’. This confrontation reveals deep inner conflict and forces self-examination that is both traumatic and revealing as events take an unexpected turn.
