Finding the courafe - dmp

Options
Hi all
i've been a lurker for a while and have finally built up the couage to speak to the cccs who are putting together a dmp for me.
Before being pregmnant my husband and i were quite care free with money and both on good wages and got carried away.
I'm now back at work pt and the cards are drowning us. We're just managing to pay back minimum repayments and have decided to get it sorted,

Is it normal to feel scared about doing it all?
Also, i have to get a new bank account - any suggestions? with hsbc at the moment
My husband is still a bit unsure about it re the time its over and how it can be sorted like that?

Sorry to ramble on; just unsure about it all.

Any advice or words would be most helpfukl.

Thanks a lot

Hi flounder and welcome to the board.

Well done in taking the first step and facing up to it. You've done the right thing in contacting CCCS as well.

It is a scary feeling but it does get better. You'll need to tighten your belts and stick within your budgets and it will get easier. It will take time but you will start to feel in control and with the CCCS you can review your dmp and increase your payments to clear your debts quicker.

I opened a bank account with Natwest, with online banking and a Solo debit card and you can set up DD's and SO's with it and have your salary paid in. No overdraft or cheque book though which is fine for me. You'll need to make sure that the bank you choose is not linked with any of your creditors.

I'm here for the longhaul but feel better now that I have faced up to it and set up a dmp with CCCS.

  • Hi and welcome to the boards.
It is a little scary when you first start out on the DMP,not knowing how your creditors will react, but most of the time given a few prods along the way they usually accept it.
Have a read of the DMP mutal support thread if you`ve not already, you will get all the support you need there.

    Hi flounder,

It's quite normal to feel scared when the reality becomes all too clear, but you've already taken the first steps so be proud for doing that.

I'm a newbie too so not able to offer any advice as such but there are many here who are far more experienced & I'm sure they will soon be in touch.

Keep positive & I'm sure you'll find help soon

    good luck

    lula
