Sky + Info required please!

I've had a look at the Sky website but am a little confused by all the different options available. Two queries....

Firstly, my OH's parents have Sky and their Sky box has packed in. They are now considering getting Sky Plus - are there any special deals on at the moment for them to get a cheap installation? Or a few months cheap subscription?

Secondly, we have had Sky Plus for 13 months now and find that the hard drive on our box is not substantial enough for our needs. I know that Sky have a new box with more memory capacity but I think it's £299  from what I can gather from their website. Is there any way I can get this cheaper? Would it be worth cancelling our subscription (which is in OH's name) and taking out a new one in my name? Would we get any "new client" sign up deal? Are there codes floating around for deals?

Or can we "recommend" OH's parents to get Sky + and get some sort of incentive?

Any help and info appreciated as I'm confused by all this! Thanks in anticipation

I think you should be able to put a new (bigger) hard drive in your current box - they use PC hard drives. There is some info here:

This may not be the cheapest solution though, and I can't answer any of your other questions.

Also, if it is more than say £100 to upgrade, why not consider a DVD recorder?

Not meaning to tread on gizmoleeds feet, I'd like to open this up a bit. I have had nightmares with Sky and I've not even watched a programme yet! The installation is complete but we haven't got a card yet. Then of course you have to pay through the nose ringing them up to get them to do what they should have done in the first place. Anyone know how to get any sense out of them? or goodwill gestures? Or any landline numbers theat aren't 0870?

    Not a problem
Or any landline numbers theat aren't 0870?

0800 7312079 - ask for customer services, if they insist you ring an 0870 number say OK then call 0207 7053000 - both numbers from https://www.saynoto0870.com

Also BTW, I have had generally good experiences with Sky and am a happy customer. I hope your problems are sorted soon.

Thanks for the link :) I had thought about it but I'm a complete technophobe, lol. I like the ease of use with Sky + and not having to worry about blank dvd's and learning to use another remote control and the functions it encompasses!

gav1 - I've never really had any gripe with Sky, they are generally very helpful whenever I've had to phone them. As gizmo says, just call them on the 0800 number and get them to transfer your call.

  • have a look on digitalspy.com theres a sky+forum in there and you should be able to get a refurb sky+ box for £49 with multiroom but tell them you dont req multiroom, the details are all in the forum. sky+ 160 is expensive at the moment. you can swap the hard drive in a std sky+ box to increase capacity much cheaper, however itr will invalidate your warranty.
