Advice needed

I'm just after some advice. I take 60mg Citalopram antidepressants for anxiety although I don't really find that they do anything. It still takes me ages to get to sleep at night, but if I don't take them it takes me all night. I get really anxious just before, during and after my period. I've spoken to the doctor and the pharmacist about this but they were no help. I was just wondering if anyone on here had any suggestions? Thank you!

If you are thinking of changing your medication you really need to speak to a medical professional x

I was thinking about taking some vitamins or supplements and my GP said this would be okay, although he didn't think it would help. I asked the pharmasist for advice on vitamins and supplements and he couldn't suggest anything. Don't worry, I will speak to my GP befiore I change my medication

How about trying some alternative / complementary alternatives? Such as yoga, meditation and visualisation? If you do a google search I am sure you could get loads of information, and often GPs can recommend 'anxiety management' groups and courses you could attend. These would be great because they do not interfere with any prescribed medication you are on.
    Hope that helps.
  • What time of day do you take your citalopram? If you take them at night you could try switching to taking them in the morning as citalopram can cause sleep disturbances.
  • I'm on Citalopram and I was told to take it in the morning. Try taking it then and see how you get on if its still difficult to sleep try an Anti-histamine. Don't get the side affects as a sleeping tablet. Or you could try the herbal sleep aids.

I've got into a routine of having a milky drink at bedtime. Sure it doesn't always work but it helps me relax. On the nights when I can't sleep I try not to beat myself up about it and lie and do some relaxing techniques I've learnt.
