The cleanest and greenest books available in the world have been launched by visionary publisher Dorling Kindersley (DK).
Using the most ethical and environmental practices available, Dorling Kindersley has created a global publishing first with its Made with Care series of striking new books.
The books – the first four will be released this April – are full of planet-friendly content. These include:
* Earth Matters – a 256-page children’s encyclopedia of the environment by eco adventurer David de Rothschild
* Grow Organic – an 352-page gardening book for adults produced in association with Garden Organic
* Make It! - by activity expert Jane Bull. This 64-page book shows children how to turn old rubbish into something amazing
* Green Babycare – the 192-page book illustrates parents how to make greener lifestyle choices for you and your baby by Susannah Marriott
So how are Made with Care books different? DK has:
* taken off the book jackets to save paper and energy
* used card which is 100% recycled
* printed the books on FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper which is sourced from responsibly managed forests. So for every tree that is used another is planted
* used vegetable inks and environmentally friendly glues
* energy-efficient in-line binding process
* minimised travel and ensured the books are printed locally in Europe
* worked with the best environmental printers in the business. (Mohn Media is one of Europe’s most pioneering printers and has a solid track record of environmental work. It prides itself on continually researching and developing more eco-friendly products and printing processes. Based in Gutersloh in Germany, the printer has reduced its own carbon footprint by 52 per cent)
