The QWERTY keyboard was patented by American printer and publisher Christopher Sholes in 1868. The term QWERTY does of course take its name from the first six letters on the top row of letters on a keyboard. Some people believe that the top row letter keys were chosen for ease of demonstration, observing that the word typewriter can be written by using the top row of the keyboard only.
I did do a lot of research on this as there are a lot of conflicting answers
It seems that it was 1873/4 he sold the typewriter idea to Remington0 -
Didn't Christopher Latham Scholes invent the first typewrite (received its patent in) 1868 but I believe it had the ABCDEF keyboard. The myth then goes that this system caused the keys to stick so he / his brother invented the QWERTY keyboard in 1873/74 to solve the problem.
I have a feeling that the QWERTY keyboard was actually patented in 1878---->
