Q: What is the name of the world’s largest tropical rainforest?
The Amazon - pretty sure of that!!
South America is home to some of the most spectacular and diverse natural wonders on Earth: the vast Amazon River, the largest tropical rainforest in the world, and the rocky Andes Mountains, which stretch the entire length of the continent.
The Sunday Times Travel Magazine has teamed up with specialist travel company Excedo – which offers bespoke luxury small-ship experiences and adventure travel around the world – and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to offer one lucky reader and a guest the chance to win a South American trip of a lifetime – to Peru.
This luxury 10-night holiday includes five-star hotels, an unrivalled first-class train journey to Machu Picchu and a five-day river cruise down the Peruvian Amazon aboard the magnificent M/V Delfin.
Experienced guides will accompany you as you explore the Amazonian rainforest, fish for piranhas, swim with river dolphins, and learn about the history of the Incas and lots more.
The winners will start their journey in Lima, where they will visit historical cathedrals and palaces in the ‘City of the Kings’. In Cusco, a trip to Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, offers the opportunity to haggle at the market of Pisac. Then, they will board Orient-Express’s luxury train, the Hiram Bingham, named after the man who discovered Machu Picchu in 1911. You’ll spend a day exploring the magnificent Inca ruins, then head on to Iquitos to board the M/V Delfin for your Amazon voyage. With just seven air-conditioned cabins, this new river vessel provides a casual but luxurious environment.
