    Still trying to get answer 1 but Samuel Ryder (St Albans) started the Ryder Cup in 1927. He used to sell seeds in little packets. So

    sorry Etch this never showed up when I searched but I am out of training as I could only solve question 2 anyway. Am looking for the apology and note that I thought I had put on my post, but it isn't there! It wasn't here either. What have I done!

    No problem! I was probably still composing my post when you searched. The clue about the comedian with RAF connections immediately brought Michael Bentine's name to mind and I just needed to check his date and place of birth to get the answer to the first question.

    I had forgotten his connection with the RAF as now I think I'm remembering Harry Secombe, Spike and Michael decided they were the Free Wales Air Force (or something like that) - no planes, just the air force!!! They really were unique!!
