In what year was the Brazilian Grand Prix horserace first held?
having first been held in 1933
From the blurb.
One reader will win a five-day guided trip riding along Brazil’s historic old
Portuguese Gold Route, plus a day at the races in Rio de Janeiro, all courtesy of Have Horse Will Travel Our winner will enjoy a spectacular riding holiday. Starting off high in the mountains, they will ride along the old Portuguese Gold Route, which played an important role in Brazil’s economic development, before ending up at the charming coastal town of Paraty. The holiday culminates in a visit to Rio de Janeiro races to watch the Brazilian Grand Prix, the most celebrated horserace in South America.
The holiday gives you the opportunity to ride the gaited Mangalarga Marchador horse, which is native to Brazil. The horses have an accelerated gait — the marcha — that gives a smooth and comfortable ride and they are renowned for being incredibly surefooted. Our winner will be matched up with a suitable horse at the start of the holiday.
Shared accommodation will be provided along the route, with meals being offered on a full-board basis during the ride and half board thereafter. Our winner will be allocated an English-speaking guide for the duration of the trip.
When our winner arrives in Paraty, they will say farewell to the horses and get the opportunity to explore the historic colonial town and picturesque surrounding islands. On the last day of the holiday, the lucky winner will be transferred to Rio de Janeiro racecourse, which has a beautiful mountain backdrop, to watch the Rio Grand Prix races. This is the biggest race meeting in South America and has a long heritage, having first been held in 1933. More than 50,000 people flock to the meeting each year, making for an atmospheric and memorable day.
Have Horse Will Travel will offer a 10% discount if the winner wishes to bring a guest on the trip.
Place(s) must be confirmed by 30 May 2008. All clients must comply with Have Horse Will Travel booking conditions and have suitable travel insurance cover. They must be of an intermediate riding standard or above for the ride. International flights from London to Rio de Janeiro and transfers are included, as is entrance to the Rio Grand Prix race meeting. Approximately £150-£200 spending money is suggested to cover drinks, extra meals, gratuities and personal expenses.
IPC Media's normal terms and conditions apply to this competition. Entrants must be aged 18 or over and resident in the UK. The judge's decision is final, and there is no cash alternative. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 26 March at 12 noon. The winners will be notified by email after the closing date.

Have entered but haven't ridden since smashing my pelvis apart whilst show jumping 3 years ago. Winning this would be a great incentive to get back in the saddle!:rotfl:0
