Hi all ,i ave just finished my interview with the OR and i was a little annoyed.
I had a small personalised printed gift site and made mugs t-shirts etc which didn't make a lot of money but it was a job. i decided to go bankrupt because my personal debts had dragged on for years and i would have been 70 by the time i had finished paying for them and they were dragging me down.
Due to a client going bankrupt before Christmas and owing me money my business was not looking good but i made a fair bit from my website to compensate plus if i had the lost revenue from over the Christmas period I would have come out OK.
So where am i going the OR said my business was not viable which under the circumstances (which i accept)and they will take all the equipment, but i asked if i could keep my computer and he said NO! i asked if i could keep the hard drive and he said NO! i did point out that this contains my clients information art work etc  and this is protected under the Data protection act and he still say NO ! just wipe it or copy it!
Should I be allowed to keep my computer as these are the tools of my trade as a graphic artist, disregarding the business as it was?
As i work in a digital format a computer and printer are important?
not having these will remove me from the market?
Also i took all the information they required and more in the end i asked if i could get this years trading invoices back and he said no!
i asked how I was to complete my accounts?
He said i should have photocopied them
i said i was not aware of that
He said we can copy them for you at 32p a sheet (all 300) or i can come in and fill in my tax return as i said i don't know how to do that, thats why i had an accountant?
He said well you cant afford an accountant
I may be bankrupt now but this is not a life choice
Anyone any ideas on this situation with books and equipment?
cheers

Hi
I don't know the answers to your questions but just wanted to say that your OR sounds a little harsh. Maybe someone will be along later who can help, but it is sometimes quiet at wkends. If you get no joy by monday just bump your post up to the top and you may get more response then. Hi qsip1

Or go down to your local refuse recycling place and slip one of the blokes a tenner for a dumped one;) and put it in its place.
You should also point out that the only safe way of destroying all your clients personal details is by destruction of the hard drive and as the OR will dispose of your goods by Auction your pc could end up with any old unsavoury character and its your duty to comply with the data protection act, maybe you could threaten to report the OR to the DPA
Your OR sounds a right !!!! of a jobs worth, sounds like he needs reminding your paying for his service.Life is like a game of Snakes & Ladders, i almost made it to the top but now i'm at the bottom again and its a very long ladder to the top. I had it all and now its gone
Well my 6 years are now up, now to start to rebuild my life again
