Chemicals/products you really don't need...

OK, this sounds disgusting but can we think of personal care products that are marketing hypes rather than necessities?

What got me on to this was reading about how shampoo isn't necessary if you rinse your hair in hot water every 2 days.
I never thought this would work as I have - or rather had - very, very greasy hair and a scalp that would itch like mad if I didn't shampoo often enough.
But then 6 weeks ago I took the plunge and it works!
My hair is shiney, doesn't smell but best of all is not at all greasy or itchy. I had tried the bicarb and vinegar method but my hair never came out clean and my scalp still itched.
I stopped using shampoo on the kids too and their hair is clean too.

We live in a semi rural setting so I wonder if this method would work as well in an urban setting?

Face cleanser and moisturiser have been replaced by olive oil massaged into the skin and then 'lifted off' by hot fanels resting on the face and repeating the process until the oil is gone.

Body scrubs are now cornmeal and honey.

And no, we don't look like hairy monsters!!

tbh i`ve never really been seduced by all the advertising of face creams/deodourants/hair products. i only have a pitt rock crystal (deodourant)which cost about a fiver and it has lasted me 18 months so far and is still going strong and i can`t recommend it highly enough! i also use the big containers of supermarket cheapie shampoo and use it for shower gel as well whilst im washing my hair, i also use the shampoo for shaving my legs so thats it as far as my toiletries go. all the marketing and glossy adverts doesn`t work a jot on me :rotfl: so long as i am clean and presentable thats good enough for me!
proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance! :p
Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money
