Free eye test with Prima magazine

18 March 2008

What's the deal?

There's a voucher in Prima magazine for a free eye test at at any of Dollond & Aitchison's 380 branches until 30 August. These are free in Scotland anyway, but usually cost poor southerners £27.50.

How to get it:

Pick up the April edition of Prima from any newsagent for £2.50, or from Morrisons for £1.50; you'll find the voucher on page 23. Cut it out and present it at any D&A optician to get the free test.

Should you decide to buy glasses at the shop, there's also a voucher for 20% off a pair. However...

You don't have to buy glasses from D&A:

D&A's offering these vouchers as it hopes you'll buy specs or lenses from it if you need them, but this isn't a prerequisite. Before parting with your cash, read both my Glasses Buying and Contact Lens cost cutting articles to help slash the amount you pay.

Plus get a moisturiser for an extra £1.50

Since you might buy it anyway, there's another voucher in April's Prima that's (apparently, according to my esteemed female colleagues) worth checking out; this time it's for a 'free' Martha Hill moisturiser. To claim it you have to send off a £1.52 SAE, so it's not quite free, but perhaps worth a go if you like that sort of thing.

Anything else?

1. Valid until 30/08/08
2. Special offer available at any Branch of D&A on presentation of this voucher.
3. This voucher cannot be used with an NHS eye test or any other eye test offer.
5. This reduction is not dependent on the purchase of a complete pair of glasses.
6. Only one voucher per visit, which must be surrendered at time of examination.
7. Photocopies will not be accepted.

Thanks to MBN for originally posting these vouchers on the magazine offers thread, and jaymac for posting below.

Do Scotland get free eye tests still or was that just for a while?

    Good spot though!

I took D&A up on this offer recently.
IT DOES NOT INCLUDE TEST FOR CONTACT LENSES.

They will only test for glasses, I got them to agree to a free contact lense test also but they then will not give you a contact lense prescription to use for online purchasing. Instead they ask you to commit to a direct debit with them for lenses (at extortionate prices).

My overall experience with D&A was horrible and I felt that this offer was nothing more than a "membership drive" i.e. getting people to sign up to their services/offers.

On the other hand, if you are just going for an eye test for glasses, it's fine.

Yes free eye tests is permanent up here and prescription charges are being abolished gradually starting with a cut to £5 from April! Don't all move north at once :rotfl:
