EXPIRED - Laptop £230

Acer Extensa 5220 £239.71 - 5% Quidco = £230.

Don't get any cheaper than this, will probably need to add more memory, 512mb for £7.99 here.(add 2Gb memory for £26 here) Its not going to break any records but for internet, emails etc, ideal.
Unless your going to spend £500+ to get a laptop with the Intel T7000 range and a dedicated graphics card your unlikely to notice the difference between this processor and many others. The Celeron 540M is 1 core from a Core 2 Duo chip. Many applications only use one Core so often this Celeron will beat a Core 2 Duo1.6Mhz. The processor is a Core Architecture CPU(as is the Core 2 Duo) which means it is faster than a Centrino Pentium M 1800.
  • Intel® Celeron ® M processor 540 (1.86 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB L2 cache )
  • 512MB of DDR2 533 MHz memory , upgradeable to 2 GB using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)
  • 80GB hard disk drive
  • DVD/CD-RW combo drive
  • 15.4" WXGA high-brightness TFT LCD with Acer CrystamBrite Technology
  • Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100
  • Windows Vista® Home Basic

At that price, the relatively frequent Dell offers represent much better value for money so I'd wait for one of those at around £50 more.

For the past few days it has been £233 as per my post above, they have put the price up now. As has been said, there are now better laptops available at this new £280 price. Bargain gone!!
